Without solid bike handling skills you’ll be wasting energy all over the place! When riding a long event this should be avoided at all cost. For this reason, it is important to spend time on your bike handling skills.

Mastering basic techniques will mean you’re spending less time on the brakes, wasting less energy inefficiently climbing; and more time maintaining a higher average speed, putting power down more efficiently and covering more ground. If this isn’t enough of an incentive, you’ll also become more confident on the bike, leading to having more fun and being able to tackle harder trails.

Fortunately, there is no substitute for training them other than getting out and riding as much varied trail as you can and session-ing these techniques. Get out there and enjoy it!
