What I say:

Having being run since 1998, Mountain Mayhem is very well organised and maintains a high atmosphere throughout the night. The course isn’t particularly technical, though they have added a couple of technical descents in the later years of being run. It is one of the oldest and best established 24-hour races because it is a race that anybody can take on – it takes the focus off the technical ability of the rider and focuses on  the physical aspect of the race.

Tips:

  • The race covers a lot of fields – get ready to pull thick grass our of your rear derailleur.
  • Go for fast rolling tyres, but have something with more tread ready – if it rains, it’ll get boggy.
  • Stay hydrated. A couple of long stints out of the cover of the trees will dry you out quickly.
